Rock And Roll Love Affair was a stand-alone single released on swiss label Purple Music on 22 November 2012 (after initially being announced for 2 November, then 16 November 2012). It is announced available for retailers on 26 November 2012.
Rock And Roll Love Affair was included on Prince's 39th studio album Hitnrun Phase Two when it was released in December 2015, but this project is believed to have come later. In retrospect, however, Rock And Roll Love Affair can be considered the album's second single.
The single was premiered on 17 September 2012 on US radio iHeartRadio.com (at the same time as Prince's appearance on US talk show The View). It was announced as rotating on European radios from 12 October 2012 onwards.
Rock And Roll Love Affair has been released sor far under CD and 12" vinyl (regular and picture) formats. The digital release is still pending. At the time of writing it is not known if this is intended to tie-in with any larger studio project, or will remain as a stand-alone single.
Aided by top-of-the-hour promotional airplay on participating Clear Channel and Media Entertainment-owned stations in the USA on 17 September 2012, the single entered the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart on 6 October 2012 at position 22.
