The Arms Of Orion was the third single to be released from Prince’s eleventh album Batman. It was released four months after the album, and received a release around the world, continuing the commercial tie-in with the Batman movie.
The b-side, I Love U In Me, was previously-unreleased (unusually, Prince would later use the same track as the b-side of Insatiable).
Like its predecessor Partyman, the CD single was available only as a 3" single; also like its predecessor, the single’s cover art was a variation of the well-known Batman logo.
The CD single contained an unannounced .cdi file, which played a slideshow of unrelated pictures and lyrics from Alphaville’s 1989 song "Summer Rain" with The Arms Of Orion as a soundtrack when entered into a computer. This video had no input from Prince and should not be considered a promotional video, but an experiment by Warner Bros. into the technology that was available using CD singles, and was advanced for its time.
The singles reached number 36 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
