The Voice was the first single from Mavis Staples’ second Paisley Park Records album, The Voice, and was released in Summer 1993, at around the time of the album’s release. The single was re-released in 1994 on NPG Records at around the same time as the album’s re-release.
A promo release of the single also contained a remix of the track by Prince (as Paisley Park) and additional rap by Tony M., but this version did not receive an commercial release.
The CD single in Australia contained Mavis Staples’ version of Positivity from the same album. When the single was re-released in 1994 in the USA, it included You Will Be Moved, also taken from the album, and Come Home (from the album Time Waits For No One, but also included on the NPG Records reissue of The Voice).
The single did not enter the charts.
