Yo Mister was the second single to be released from Patti LaBelle’s second MCA Records album Be Yourself. It was released three months after the album, and was released in the USA and Germany. The b-side, I Can Fly, was also taken from the album. The single contained several remixes of Yo Mister, which featured Prince as a writer, producer and performer.

The single did not enter the US Billboard Pop Chart, but reached number 6 on the Billboard R&B Chart.
