Six is the sixth track on Madhouse's first album 8, and, one week before the album's release, 6 was released as the album's first and only single. Six was written and produced by Prince (credited only to Madhouse), with saxophone and musical input by Eric Leeds.
Initial tracking took place on 30 September 1986 at Prince's Galpin Blvd Home Studio, Chanhassen, MN, USA (the day after Three, Four and Five, the same day as Seven, and the day before Eight); it is likely that the title was assigned only after the final sequence had been arranged for the album.
Other than the similarity in numbering and in music style, Six is not related musically to the single b-side Six And ½.
