Six And ½ is the b-side of Madhouse’s single 6, the first and only single from their first album 8. Six And ½ was written by Eric Leeds (credited to Madhouse) and produced by Prince (also credited to Madhouse).

Basic tracking for this song took place on 8 October 1986 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California during post-production work for the album 8 (the day after disbanding The Revolution and recording Telepathy and three days before Violet Blue). At this point the track was given the title Nine, logically following the last recorded Madhouse track “Eight”, but was dubbed Six And ½ when utilized as b-side for the single 6. Since the title Nine was now vacant, a subsequently recorded Madhouse song re-used that title and was later released on Madhouse’s second album 16).

Since the title-change was only made after the track was assigned as the b-side for the single 6, Six And ½ is not related musically to Six.

The track is notable for being the only Madhouse track to include trumpet from Atlanta Bliss, and the only Madhouse track to be written entirely by Eric Leeds.
