Sixteen is the eighth and final track on Madhouse’s second and final album 16. Sixteen was written and produced by Prince and Eric Leeds (credited only to Madhouse).

While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in the last day of July or the first few days of August 1987 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota; it is likely that the title was assigned only after the final sequence had been arranged for the album. The track opens and closes with sampled lines of dialogue by John Marley as Jack Woltz from the 1972 movie The Godfather (a movie also sampled on Eleven and Thirteen).
