Traffic Jam is an unreleased instrumental track, likely recorded on 25 February 1984 (estimate) at Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota (assumed). It is thought to have been created for possible use in Purple Rain as Albert Magnoli requested one more upbeat song, but if this was the case it was shelved after Prince recorded When Doves Cry a couple of days later. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that the track’s ascending synth-string ending is almost identical to that of When Doves Cry.
