Unreleased Music Video details

Shooting or Planned shooting date: 1990
Producer(s): Prince (assumed)
Director: Prince

This entry details an unreleased video for Robin Power’s song Number 1. The track was included in the Graffiti Bridge movie and was planned for inclusion on a proposed album by Robin Power & The Uptown Dames. In 2008, Robin Power posted what seems to be a rough cut of the video (labeled as POWER IS #1) on one of her Youtube account but this was probably not done with Prince’s consent and is therefore considered as "unreleased". Of note, the backing music in this video is different from the version featured in the Graffiti Bridge movie.

Prince directed the video, shot in one day in Late October 1990, likely at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, Minnesota, a few days before the theatrical release of Graffiti Bridge. The version posted online shows Robin Power performing the song with her band, The Uptown Dames, that includes two dancers: Kimberly Arland, who also appeared in numerous videos that were shot between 1990 and 1992 (Thieves In The Temple, Cream, Sexy M.F., Gett Off (Houstyle), Violet The Organ Grinder and T.C. Ellis’ Miss Thang) and Kimberly Rasheed (who would later be featured as an extra in the Cream and Sexy M.F. videos). Interestingly, the band’s bass player, Joanie Haywood plays the heart-shaped guitar that was used occasionnaly by Prince or his band members since (at least) the Dirty Mind Tour.
