Thieves In The Temple is a Prince video released for broadcast and to promote the single.
The video mixes the performance of the song from the Graffiti Bridge movie and miscellaneous footage from the film. According to Michael Koppelman, the video was created right after the recording of the song.
Two versions of the video were created for broadcast: the full 8:37 version (with Robin Power making her first appearance in a Prince video) and an edited 4:08 minute version (the latter with a slightly remixed audio).
The extended version of the video has some extra lyrics run over the screen but not sung:
- LOVE (A thief’s definition)
- A. 2 swear allegiance then back out like a punk when another offer comes along
- B. 2 speak of loyalty only until some bucks are placed on the table, then sucking up to the highest bidder
- C. 2 criticize 4 the sake of personal gain or 4 the actual enjoyment of it
- D. 2 make love like an animal while swearing up and down your partner is the best all the while thinking of your next conquest
- E. 2 speak of a new world without first knowing how to fix your own
