Aces is an unreleased track recorded in Summer 1976 at Moon Sound in Minneapolis, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions as Baby, Diamond Eyes, Don’t Forget, Don’t Hold Back, Fantasy, I’m Yours, Jelly Jam (which was later used as the instrumental portion of Just As Long As We’re Together), Leaving For New York, Love Is Forever (later renamed My Love Is Forever), Make It Through The Storm, Since We’ve Been Together, Surprise and Soft And Wet).
Like some of the other tracks recorded during these sessions, the lyrics were written by Chris Moon and the music by Prince. Moon has described the track as experimental in nature, lasting around 7 minutes long, with Mediterranean and Indian sections.
It was included as the fourth and final track on a 1976 demo tape, but while the other tracks included were later used on Prince’s first album For You, Aces was left unreleased.
There has been some speculation that the track was written about André Cymone, whose nickname was "Aces", but the lyrics were written by Chris Moon and were not connected with André Cymone at all.
