( Like) Funky Music is the tenth and final credited track on the New Power Generation's third and final 'solo' album Newpower Soul (Wasted Kisses was included as an uncredited bonus track), but in June, 1997, a year before the album's release, a short sample of the song was available to stream on Love4OneAnother.com (along with samples of Shoo-Bed-Ooh, Funk Radio and S&M Groove).
While specific recording dates are now known, initial tracking took place in May, 1997, at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (during the same set of sessions that produced Shoo-Bed-Ooh). A repeated horn line in the song was previously used as a repeated synth line in Feel U Up.
