May 19, 1992 is the first album by poet/singer Ingrid Chavez, and was released in September 1991.
The album contained five tracks with musical and production input by Prince (as Paisley Park): Heaven Must Be Near, Elephant Box, Slappy Dappy, Jadestone and Whispering Dandelions (the lyrics of each track were written by Ingrid Chavez). Prince also appeared playing guitar and keyboard on the track Candle Dance.
The album produced two commercially-released singles, Elephant Box and Hippy Blood, and one promotional single, Heaven Must Be Near, but the album did not enter the charts, and sold modestly.
Ingrid Chavez's vocals were largely pulled from poetry reading sessions she did with Prince in December 1987 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA, shortly after cancelling the release of "The Black Album".
He accompanied the readings on piano, but the vocals were given new backing music by Prince for the album in March and early April 1991, at Larrabee Sound, Los Angeles, CA, USA (although Heaven Must Be Near was finished much earlier, in August 1989, at Paisley Park Studios).
The full list of tracks worked on in the initial December 1987, poetry readings is: Heaven Must Be Near, Crystal City Cry, Wintersong, Whispering Dandelions, Slappy Dappy, Candle Dance, Elephant Box, Touch Of Love, Blue Boy, Jadestone, Sad Puppet Dance, Standing In The Rain and Cross The Line.
Wintersong and Sad Puppet Dance receive song entry pages, but are not shown as Prince-related tracks below, as the versions released re-recorded with new music containing no input by Prince.
