Standing In The Rain' is an unreleased song by Ingrid Chavez and Prince, recorded with an improvised musical backing by Prince in mid-December 1987, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (shortly after cancelling the release of “The Black Album”, during the same set of sessions as Reason Enough, Heaven Must Be Near, Crystal City Cry, Wintersong, Whispering Dandelions, Slappy Dappy, Candle Dance, Elephant Box, Touch Of Love, Blue Boy, Jadestone, Sad Puppet Dance and Cross The Line). Prince’s music comprised rain sound effects and sweeping synth chords. Unusally, though, Prince also contributes vocals to the track, engaging in a conversation with Chavez about why she is standing in the rain. Unlike many of the other tracks recorded during the sessions, this track is not known to have been worked on further at a later date.
Standing In The Rain was included on a limited 100-copies compilation (titled Touch Of Love) distributed by Ingrid Chavez during a promotional tour in Europe in June 2018 and sold on her official website. The full song was part of a 52-minute mix with 11 other tracks, including Touch Of Love, a portion of the early version of Elephant Box and more recent Ingrid tracks.
