Candle Dance is the third track on Ingrid Chavez's first album May 19, 1992. It was written by Ingrid Chavez and Michael Koppelman and produced by Michael Koppelman, but Prince plays guitar and keyboard on the track (uncredited).
Although specific recording dates are unknown, Ingrid Chavez's vocal track was recorded with an improvised organ backing by Prince in mid-December 1987, at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, Minnesota (shortly after cancelling the release of "The Black Album", during the same set of sessions as Heaven Must Be Near, Crystal City Cry, Wintersong, Whispering Dandelions, Slappy Dappy, Elephant Box, Touch Of Love, Blue Boy, Jadestone, Sad Puppet Dance, Standing In The Rain and Cross The Line). Michael Koppelman was asked by Prince to provide a new musical backing for the track in March 1991, at Larrabee Sound Studios, North Hollywood, California, after he had been impressed by Koppelman's backing for Wintersong, recorded while Prince left the studio for a few hours. It is likely that Prince recorded his keyboard and guitar parts on the same day, although this is unconfirmed.
