Chocolate Box is the second track on Prince's 34th studio album MPLSound. Although the track was not released as a single, a promotional video was available at the time of the album's release, and streamed on Lotusflow3r.com (see Chocolate Box for details).
A clip of the song was first streamed on Lotusflow3r.com when the first preview of the site was open, on 4 January 2009. On 16 January 2009, the instrumental track Disco Jellyfish (in essence an instrumental remix of Chocolate Box) was streamed in its entirety on Lotusflow3r.com, but that track was not available for purchase at any point.
Recording dates and studio are unknown, but it is likely that the track was recorded in 2008 - early 2009 at either Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota or 77 Beverly Park Ln. in Beverly Hills, California. It is unclear which track, Chocolate Box or Disco Jellyfish, came first; it is possible, given the presence of discoball jellyfish on the MPLSound album cover and their use in 2009 stage sets, that Disco Jellyfish was originally intended for the album (perhaps replaced by Chocolate Box), but this is unverified.
Chocolate Box is notable as the only track on the MPLSound album to feature any musical input from anyone other than Prince; a rap by Q-Tip.
