Koo Koo is the fifth track on Sheila E.’s third album Sheila E., and, soon after the album’s release, Koo Koo was released as the album’s third single. The track is co-written by Prince and Sheila E., and Prince plays most instruments and produces the track.

While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in late September 1986, at Prince’s Galpin Blvd Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota (on the same day as One Day (I’m Gonna Make You Mine)).
