Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) is the seventh track on Prince's fifth album 1999, and, eleven months after the album's release, it was included as the b-side of the album's fourth single, Automatic, released in Australia only.
On 31 October 2013, a rehearsal recording of Something In The Water (Does Not Compute), recorded on 30 October 2013 at Paisley Park Studios, was made available on the 3rdEyeGirl YouTube account as a static video with artwork by Stella Blu.
On 1 November 2013, the same rehearsal recording was made available on the 3rdEyeTunes.com.
A different early take if the song was released in 2019 as thr 11th track on the third of the deluxe edition of the 1999 album.
Basic tracking took place at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota, in mid-April 1982.
Prince re-recorded the song on 28 April 1982 (two days after How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore, a day after an original, unused recording of Raspberry Beret and four days before Automatic) at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California.
