Mary Don’t You Weep is a video released posthumously to promote the album Piano & A Microphone 1983. Initially a version of the video was released with a still of the album cover image. A bit later an extended trailer for the Spike Lee film BlacKkKlansman (which features the Piano & A Microphone 1983 version of Mary Don’t You Weep) replaced it. In August 2018 a new video was shot in New York by director Salomon Ligthelm purposefully for the song with all new material. The dramatic video is a protest against gun violence and it features two Prince quotes as bookends. The quote that opens the video is the exact same Prince quote that ends the Baltimore music video.
