|introduction              = Work That Fat is an unreleased song recorded at some point in 1991, most likely at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (although possibly at Larrabee Sound Studios, North Hollywood, California). Prince uses a slowed-down voice throughout the track (not dissimilar to that used on Bob George), and the narrator describes a date with a fat girl who eats everything in sight in the narrator's apartment (similar to the Exodus album segue commonly known as the "Mashed Potato Girl" segue).

Regardless of the disastrous date, the narrator likes his women "fat 'n' proud, cause when they sit down they sit all around, the whole house, sidewalk and everything else." It is not known if the song was intended for his next album Diamonds And Pearls or any other project, although given the distorted vocals and the comical nature of the song, it was probably thought of as a side project of some sort, and if it had been released, it may not have received the artist credit "Prince".

Work That Fat was recorded on 12 January 1991 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The comical song re-uses backing music from Martika’s Kitchen (recorded the day before, 11 January 1991). Prince uses a pitched-down voice throughout the track (not dissimilar to that used on Bob George), and the narrator describes a date with a fat girl who eats everything in sight in the narrator’s apartment (similar to the Exodus album segue commonly known as the "Mashed Potato Girl" segue).

Regardless of the disastrous date, the narrator likes his women “fat ‘n’ proud, cause when they sit down they sit all around, the whole house, sidewalk and everything else.” It is not known if, but seems unlikely that the song was intended for Diamonds And Pearls or any other project. Given the distorted vocals and the comical nature of the song, it was probably thought of as a side project of some sort.

Both Sonny T. and someone named Mike are called out by name during the song, although the song is a sole Prince recording.

Work That Fat was released in October 2023 as the fifth track of Vault Tracks part 2, one of the discs with previously unreleased tracks included with the Diamonds And Pearls Super Deluxe Edition.

 • Although sometimes assumed it is unlikely the 'Mike' on guitar' is in reference to Mike Scott. He would not go on to join Prince’s (known as SymbolSmallerBlue.png at the time) band, until years later. It is much more likely a reference to Michael ‘Mike’ Koppelman, who engineered the session.
