The song’s lyrics appeared in the official 1994 book [[Book: Neo Manifesto|Neo Manifesto: Audentes Fortuna Juvat]] (as '''Everybody Wants What They Don’t Got''' although [[Prince]] sings "want"), along with lyrics of various other songs unreleased at that time, but it is unlikely that a companion audio release was ever planned. 

During [[Prince: A Celebration]] in June 2000, computer screens at [[Paisley Park Studios]] offered names of a selection of tracks which users could vote on for inclusion on [[Album: Crystal Ball Volume II|Crystal Ball Volume II]], and while '''Everybody Want What They Don’t Got''' was chosen by fans, the project was ultimately abandoned.

The song was released in September 2020 as the fourth track of ''Vault Tracks part 2'', one of the discs with previously unreleased tracks included with the [[Album: Sign O’ The Times Deluxe|Sign O’ The Times ''Super Deluxe Edition'']].
