And it lives in Minneapolis" from the [[09_September 1995|9 September 1995]] show at [[Paisley Park Studios]], and the song premiered on [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KDWB KDWB-FM] radio in Minneapolis the following day. A separate instrumental version, containing the audience chants and the DJ’s voiceover sampled from the initial broadcast, premiered on [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KDWB KDWB-FM] two days later.

The song was recorded in direct response to [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenny_Kravitz Lenny Kravitz]’s song [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_and_Roll_Is_Dead Rock And Roll Is Dead] (from the 1995 album [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circus_(Lenny_Kravitz_album) Circus], also released as a single), which had just been released, and received some press coverage as a result. A lyric sheet given to attendees at a listening party for [[Album: The Gold Experience|The Gold Experience]] (where this song was also played), ended with the credit "Thanx Lenny, call me in Minneapolis".

The song was released as the A-side of a posthumous 7" vinyl distributed to all attendees at the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Timberwolves Minnesota Timberwolves] NBA basketball game in Minneapolis' [[Target Center]] against the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami_Heat Miami Heat] on [[Prince_Vault:Selected_anniversaries/April_5|5 April, 2019]] (with [[Calhoun Square]] as the B-side). The single was made available digitally on the same day.
