In an article dedicated to the upcoming release of the Come 2 My House album in the Billboard magazine published on 13 June 1998, it was announced that Chaka Khan is “slated to shoot multiple videos for various album cuts”. Although three (commercial or promotional) singles were released from the album (Spoon, Don’t Talk 2 Strangers and This Crazy Life Of Mine), only two videos were delivered to TV-stations: Don’t Talk 2 Strangers in 1998 and This Crazy Life Of Mine in 1999. Of note, the Come 2 My House album was set for release in July 1998, before being delayed for unknown reasons. This, therefore, shifted the entire promotion schedule.

Spoon was one of those videos shot for the album. The single was not released commercially and only delivered to radio stations. The video, which is a simple close-up rendition of the song by Khan, was not used to promote the album (unlike the promotional single This Crazy Life Of Mine which was accompanied by a video sent to music channels in 1999).

In August 2021, Chaka Khan streamed a minute from this video on her Facebook page.
