Fixurlifeup is the sixth track on Prince’s 36th album Plectrumelectrum (the first by Prince and 3rdEyeGirl). 16 months earlier, however, Fixurlifeup was released on the debut digital single by "3rdEyeGirl feat. Prince" in May 2013, following the majority of dates on the Live Out Loud Tour (with the credit later revised to "Prince and 3rdEyeGirl").

While specific recording dates are not known, it is assumed to have been recorded in early 2013 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

The track was first broadcast on 12 April 2013, on Toronto (Canada) radio station CBC Radio’s show Q with Jian Ghomeshi, to promote the opening dates of the Live Out Loud Tour, which began in Vancouver three days later. The premiere was announced on Jian Ghomeshi’s Twitter account the previous night with the tweet

"Just (finally) confirmed: We’ve got world premiere of the new #Prince & 3RDEYEGIRL song, #FIXURLIFEUP, tmrw morn on #Q. We like."
