When She Comes is the eighth track on Prince’s 39th album Hitnrun Phase Two (his final album to be released during his lifetime). A version of the song with different verses was originally slated as the ninth song of the Welcome 2 America album in 2011 and released posthumously in 2021. Initial tracking took place on 12 March 2010 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (on the same day as Born 2 Die and Running Game (Son Of A Slave Master)), during sessions that yielded material for the Welcome 2 America album. Additional recordings (possibly the full re-recording the Hitnrun Phase Two version with different verses and band members) took place in Autumn 2014, also at Paisley Park Studios. When She Comes was included as the third track on a CD found at Paisley Park Studios following Prince’s death, labeled "Live Band Trax". The other tracks (Ain’t Gonna Miss U When U’re Gone, Screwdriver, Shade Of Umber, Boyfriend, and The Secret Text) mostly stem from 2012 or early 2013, suggesting that this CD was compiled around that time. It is not known if the version included on the CD was a live in-studio take with the then-nascent 3rdEyeGirl line-up, or the original studio recording for the band members to learn.
