Cool was the second single to be released from The Time’s first album The Time. It was released a few months after the album, and was released in the USA and the UK.
The a-side contained an edit of the track Cool, with the b-side containing "part II" of the full-length track. The UK 12" single also contained After Hi School, which was also taken from the album The Time (and had also been included on the previous single, Get It Up, which was not available in the UK).
Prince co-wrote and largely performed Cool, and he performed most instruments on After Hi School (which was written by Dez Dickerson), although his input on both tracks was uncredited.
The single reached number 90 on the US Billboard Pop Chart, but reached number 7 on the Billboard Soul Chart.
