Spoon was a promotional single by Chaka Khan available in late 1998, shortly before the release of her first and only NPG Records album Come 2 My House; the single marked the first release by Chaka Khan on NPG Records.
The single (promo) was available in the US and in Europe (as a 1-track single), with no commercial release. The single’s release was originally scheduled for 30 June, but the album’s release, scheduled for 21 July 1998, was postponed for two months for an unknown reason. The US version contained the album version of the track Spoon, on which Prince (as ) is believed to appear as a musician, as well as Tour The House, which includes clips of several tracks from Come 2 My House.
Tour The House does not include any unique instrumentation or lyrics, restricted instead to song clips edited into each other (similar to the track X-cerpts From The Songs: Thunder, Daddy Pop, Strollin’, Jughead, Money Don’t Matter 2 Night, Push, Live 4 Love from the Diamonds And Pearls single). It includes edited clips taken from various tracks on the album: This Crazy Life Of Mine (1:10), Pop My Clutch (0:39), Don’t Talk 2 Strangers (1:11), Democrazy (1:28) and Remember U (0:55), bookended with the sound effects of doors opening and closing (see specific tracks for recording information and recording personnel). Tour The House was also included on the Don’t Talk 2 Strangers single.
This promo single did not chart in the USA or Europe but the song reached number 17 on the Tokio Hot 100 Chart in Japan.
