Trivia

This was an invite only birthday party thrown by Prince for Sheila E.. 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton, Le Grind and Bob George were recorded a few days before especially for this occasion. Prince had an acetate of the pressed so the dj could play them. Al Jarreau, Joni Mitchell, Larry Klein and Manu Katché were in attendance. Earlier in the afternoon, Sheila E. played at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles, with her father Pete Escovedo, her brothers Peter Michael Escovedo and Juan Escovedo and Tito Puente. That show was released as Latina Familia in 1989. The brass ensemble and other musicians from the Wiltern Theatre show may have also played at the Vertigo gig, but this has not been verified.
