The Cross was a promotional single from Prince's ninth album Sign O' The Times, released in 1987.

It was available only in South Africa. It is not known if a wider release was planned.

The b-side was an edited version of Adore that was not available elsewhere else at that time. This edited version was later included The Hits 1.
