My Computer is the ninth track on the third disc of Prince’s 19th album Emancipation, the third album to be credited to .
Basic tracking dates are unknown, but it is likely that the track was recorded in late 1995 or early 1996 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. It features British singer/songwriter Kate Bush on background vocals, marking her first and only appearance on a Prince/ recording (although Prince had previously appeared on her track Why Should I Love You?). The thematic of My Computer, a person who seeks companionship or comfort through his computer, echoes Kate Bush’s 1989 song Deeper Understanding (from her 1989 album The Sensual World which also includes the track Love And Anger, featured in The New Power Generation Radio Show in 1989).
The track also uses an opening and closing sample from AOL’s e-mail program (stating "You’ve got mail" and "goodbye") and a synth line sampled or borrowed from the unreleased 1985/1986 track Come Elektra Tuesday.
In September 2019 the song was released on a single, as cover mount with the October 2019 edition of Musikexpress magazine in Germany.
