The track was recorded by [[Prince]] and [[Sheila E.]], who named the track (in the same vein as [[2 Nigs United 4 West Compton]], recorded shortly before, in December 1986). 

It was included as the first track on a 1989 configuration of a proposed [[Album: Sheila E. (1989)|fourth album]] by [[Sheila E.]], but the album was abandoned when [[Sheila E.]] left [[Prince]]’s band and [[Paisley Park Records]] in early 1989. During [[Prince: A Celebration]] in June 2000, computer screens at [[Paisley Park Studios]] offered names of a selection of tracks which users could vote on for inclusion on [[Album: Crystal Ball Volume II|Crystal Ball Volume II]], and while '''3 Nigs Watchin’ A Kung Fu Movie''' was chosen by fans, the project was ultimately abandoned. Thus, although it is listed here with two different artist credits ([[Sheila E.]] and [[Prince]]) the recording is thought to be the same instrumental.
