Three months later, the original version was included as the first track on [[Album: Kamasutra|Kamasutra]], the first and only album credited to the [[The NPG Orchestra]] (the album was later included as a bonus CD on the direct order version of [[Album: Crystal Ball|Crystal Ball]], [[Prince]]’s 20th album [[Album: Crystal Ball|Crystal Ball]], the fourth album to be credited to [[File: Symbol_no2.svg|14px|link=Alias: Symbol]]).

Basic tracking dates are unknown, but it is likely that the track was recorded between 1994 - early 1996 at [[Paisley Park Studios]] in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Although most of the [[Album: Kamasutra|Kamasutra]] album features orchestration, '''The Plan''' appears to be a solo performance by [[Prince]] (as [[File: Symbol_no2.svg|14px|link=Alias: Symbol]]). The track reuses the main melody of [[Once Upon A Time]] (released by [[Eric Leeds]] in 1991 on [[Album: Times Squared|Times Squared]]).
