U Know is the fifth track on Prince’s 37th album Art Official Age, and was released four weeks earlier as a pre-order download, hours after the track was debuted by Celebuzz, and it was also available to purchase separately (on the same day Whitecaps was released to promote Plectrumelectrum).

While specific recording dates are not known, it is assumed to have been recorded in early 2014 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

The track uses a musical backing sampled from Blinded by Los Angeles singer/songwriter/rapper Mila J (only available as a streaming video in 2012), and a short sample of the Blinded music was first used in the sampler set in March 2014, indicating that U Know had been recorded by this point (though it is possible that he was simply using Blinded, with U Know recorded later).
