Night Calls is the thirteenth full-length studio album by British rock/soul singer Joe Cocker, and was released in the UK in October 1991, with a US release using an alternate tracklist and cover in July 1992.

The album contained Five Women, a track written by Prince (Prince later released his original version of the track as 5 Women on the 1999 album The Vault... Old Friends 4 Sale).


Sessions and compiling

Five Women was re-recorded by Joe Cocker's band, and has no musical input from Prince.

Prince also offered the 1991 version of Old Friends 4 Sale for use on the album, but Cocker declined.


Promotion

The album produced seven singles in different territories, Night Calls, I Can Hear The River, Now That The Magic Has Gone, Love Is Alive, Feels Like Forever and Unchain My Heart (connected with the album reissue). Five Women was released as a single in Europe only in 1992.

The album reached number 25 on the UK Gallup Album Chart, but only reached number 111 on the US Pop Chart when released there.
