Allegiance is the third track (second song) on Howard Hewett’s fourth solo studio album Allegiance, and is written by Prince, although he does not appear on the released recording, which is produced by Tommy LiPuma.

Basic tracking for Prince’s original version took place on 1 October 1991 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (the day after Letter 4 Miles, the same day as the release of Prince and the New Power Generation’s album Diamonds And Pearls and the recording of Do U Wanna Rock? and Sweet Baby, four days before recording The Thunder Ballet). Howard Hewett’s version was also recorded at Paisley Park Studios between late 1991 and late 1992.
