Stimulation is an unreleased song recorded on 8 September 1987, at Paisley Park Studios. The track was mentioned in the 22 September 1987 script for Graffiti Bridge, and was included as the second track on the 25 September 1988 configuration of the Graffiti Bridge album. The track was remixed on 6 October 1988, however (the same day as recording Elephants & Flowers and Still Would Stand All Time), and was included on the 27 November 1988 configuration of the Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic album (along with Melody Cool and God Is Alive, also from Graffiti Bridge). In the very early morning on 4 September 1989 Margie Cox recorded new lead vocals for the track at Paisley Park Studios, potentially for the Flash album, but her version, and Prince’s own, remain unreleased. Margie Cox has stated that the song may have been intended for another female vocalist, such as Carmen Electra, but this has not been confirmed. However, in the handwritten 2 December 1987 version of the script for Graffiti Bridge, the song is attributed to the Ruthie Washington character, initially to be played by Madonna. Lyrics to the song featured in the 1987 script read: I just got fired from my job today They had 2 let me go cuz I wanted more pay I said that’s OK. I got bigger dreams. One day I’m gonna come back and buy this whole scene My face is OK. My figure is pretty cool. I just need something 2 better my mood.
