17 (a.k.a. Carnac) is the ninth track on the album 1-800 New Funk (a compilation of mostly-unreleased music largely written and produced by Prince/, recorded by other Paisley Park Records artists). Later in 1994, 17 was included as the b-side on the European release of Margie Cox’s single Standing At The Altar, released to promote 1-800 New Funk.

Basic tracking (using the track’s original name Carnac) took place on 7 July 1993 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (during a five-hour session that also produced Edward (later renamed Asswoop or Asswhuppin’ In A Trunk), (Got 2) Give It Up, Parlor Games, Rootie Kazootie and a mostly-instrumental version of Space). In mid-1994, it was included (as 17) as the first track of a projected third Madhouse album, 24 (which included all the tracks recorded on 7 July 1993). The track was likely renamed 17 to fit the naming system of previous Madhouse tracks, although strangely, the other tracks on the album were not renamed.
