Blood On The Sheets started its life as the instrumental jam Darkside, as it was titled when it was recorded on 4 September 1990 at Warner Pioneer Studios, Tokyo, Japan (on the same day as Strollin’, 5 Women and Money Don’t Matter 2 Night).
Prince later reworded the track now titled Blood On The Sheets on January 31 1991, at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, Minnesota. He attempted two takes with lyrics, but both had only a few scattered phrases.
Blood On The Sheets was released in October 2023 as the ninth track of Vault Tracks part 2, one of the discs with previously unreleased tracks included with the Diamonds And Pearls (Super) Deluxe Edition.
