Darkside was recorded on 4 September 1990 at Warner Pioneer Studios, Tokyo, Japan (On same day as Strollin’, Willing And Able, 5 Women and Money Don’t Matter 2 Night). At the time the song was more of a jam, getting an idea down than necessarily a full-fledged song. In January 1991 Prince re-recorded the track as Blood On The Sheets, using the same basic riff, but changing pretty much everything else. Darkside (and Blood On The Sheets) were both released in 2023 on the Diamonds And Pearls Super Deluxe Edition set. Darkside was mixed by Chris James in 2022 for use on that collection.
