Clouds was the third (and first promotional) single from Prince's 37th studio album Art Official Age (after Breakfast Can Wait and The Breakdown). It was available in Europe only in mid-September 2014, shortly before the album. There was no promotional video made for the title track, though Prince and 3rdEyeGirl performed it on Saturday Night Live during a promotional appearance for the album.
The basic artwork used for the promo single is similar to that of the D.M.S.R. promo single from 1983, though this was likely unintentional.
While not being a commercial single, Clouds entered SNEP Top Singles chart on 25 August 2014 at position 182. It remained in the chart only one week.
