Power Of Soul: A Tribute To Jimi Hendrix is a 2004 tribute album to honor the music of American guitarist, singer and songwriter James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix), featuring a wide array of popular musicians.
The album contains Prince’s version of the song, Red House, retitled Purple House.
The song is not available on any of Prince’s own studio albums, and remains unique to this release (the album also contains a second version of the song under its original title by John Lee Hooker).
The album contains previously-unreleased tracks by Santana, Sting, Earth, Wind & Fire, Bootsy Collins (featuring George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars), Eric Clapton, Lenny Kravitz, Chaka Khan, Cee Lo and others.
Promotion
No singles were released from the album at the time of release, although a Power Of Soul limited edition EP was released in 2011 in conjunction with Record Store Day and a re-release of the album.
The album did not enter any charts.
