|trivia                    = A drum sample used in this song is originally from You’ll Like It Too by Funkadelic (from Connections & Disconnections, 1980). That sample also appears on Simon Harris’ compilation "Beats, Breaks & Scratches Volume 1" as Funky Roll (released in 1987). Prince likely took it from there as Simon Harris’ Beats, Breaks & Scratches compilations were heavily used by him and his associates in the early nineties on various songs and remixes. The same Funky Loop sample also appears on Jam Of The Year and remixes of The Most Beautiful Girl In The World.

Color, by The Steeles, is the fifth track on the album 1-800 New Funk (a compilation of mostly-unreleased music largely written and produced by Prince/SymbolSmallerBlue.png, recorded by other Paisley Park Records artists). The song was written by Prince and produced by Kirk Johnson (as "Kirky J.").

While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in late 1992 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The track was intended for a planned project by Minneapolis and the MPLS album (even though lead vocals were by The Steeles), but this project remained unfinished.
