Compassion is the first track from Prince's 35th album 20Ten.
Basic tracking dates are uncertain, but it is believed that the track was recorded in early-to-mid 2006 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (Ray Monteiro finished working with Prince in late August 2006). It is possible that the horn parts were recorded in 2006 (possibly even for a different track) with the rest of the song following later, but this is purely speculative.
The track was also worked on in September 2008 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California. This was possibly when the background vocals were done.
