Da Bourgeoisie was released on 18 November 2013 as a 256k mp3 WeTransfer download link posted on 3rdEyeGirl twitter account. On release day, a tweet asked: |
"Who wants to deliver this stolen Prince demo to the needy?"Upon which a few of the responders were asked to provide their email and were sent the song, with instructions to post a download link to it.
On 25 November 2013 the song, augmented with a horn arrangement, was made available as a wav track on 3rdEyeTunes.com and publicized on 3rdEyeGirl facebook page with the following message:
"Definition of a chameleon: a changeable, fickle, or inconstant person."The song was also streamed on 3rdEyeGirl YouTube account the same day.
While specific recording dates are not known, it is assumed that basic tracking took place in mid to late 2013, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
The songs lyrics are slightly controversial and potentially offensive to some people as Prince shows explicit disapproval on the subject of two women being together (sexually), a lyrical content matter that was previously explored in Bambi, amongst others.
It is not known if the track was intended to be part of an album or any particular project.
