From The Lotus... is the first track on Prince’s 33rd studio album Lotusflow3r.
Basic tracking took place on 19 November 2004, during a three-and-a-half hour session with Michael B. on drums and Sonny T. on bass at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota that also yielded 3121, ...Back 2 The Lotus, Colonized Mind, Love Like Jazz, Wall Of Berlin, Planet Earth, Guitar, Shameless and others tracks. In an August 2006 interview, Michael B. said they recorded eleven or twelve tracks that night. On a different occasion he later indicated that this was the last recording session they did with Prince for a while after that.
The music is also used in the track’s counterpart ...Back 2 The Lotus, which was likely recorded at the same time, and lyrics included in that track, stating "From the lotus flower..." were sampled in 3121, supporting the theory that these tracks were recorded in 2004. It is not known if further work was done on the track later.
On an early configuration of Lotusflower (later slightly renamed Lotusflow3r for release) the track is called From The Lotus Flower.
