Glasscutter (a.k.a. GlassCutter) was initially streamed in the NPG Music Club’s Glam Slam VIP room on 30 October 2004 (along with San Jose Jam) before being released as an mp3 download from the NPG Music Club on 5 April 2005 (labeled GlassCutter on the download page’s image, but Glasscutter everywhere else).

A tape photographed in Prince’s vault at Paisley Park Studios has the song listed, dated 21 October 2004, which alludes this is the exact date for the recording (the same day as Streets Of Panama and The Morning After), just eight days before its release.

In 2007 Glasscutter appeared as the second track on an early configuration of the Lotusflower album, later slightly renamed Lotusflow3r for release.
