Hey U is an unreleased song recorded on 23 June 1991 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
Hey U was filed for copyright registration on 4 October 1991. The track was intended for a planned solo project by Margie Cox (after the Flash album, for which she sung lead vocals, was abandoned), but this album remained unreleased.
Hey U contains musical elements from Archie Bell & The Drells’ 1968 song Tighten Up and a chorus reminiscent of The Esquires’ 1967 song Get On Up, both covered by Prince and the New Power Generation on the Act I Tour in 1993. It also contains a sample of LaWanda Page’s voice saying Hold it, Fred! (from the TV series Sanford And Son) also heard on Gangster Glam recorded around the same time.
