I Pledge Allegiance To Your Love is a track recorded at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, Minnesota on 1 October 1991 (the day after Letter 4 Miles, the same day as the release of Prince and the New Power Generation’s album Diamonds And Pearls and the recording of Do U Wanna Rock?, and Sweet Baby, and two days before recording The Thunder Ballet). The track was at one point considered for the album, yet not included on any known configuration.
A different song written by Prince called Allegiance (originally recorded in 1988) was re-recorded at Paisley Park Studios during the same time-period by Howard Hewett for his fourth solo studio album (also titled Allegiance), but the songs are not otherwise related. It's possible that this re-recording inspired Prince to record I Pledge Allegiance To Your Love, or that recording I Pledge Allegiance To Your Love reminded him of the vault track Allegiance, but this is all speculative.
I Pledge Allegiance To Your Love was released in October 2023 as the ninth track of Vault Tracks part 3, one of the discs with previously unreleased tracks included with the Diamonds And Pearls Super Deluxe Edition. The song was mixed by Chris James in 2022 for use on that collection.
