Long Gone is the third song on Andy Allo’s second album Superconductor (her first on NPG Records). In the booklet included with the USB edition of the album, the track is listed as Gone and credits Prince as the sole author (he also plays acoustic guitar on the track). A live version of the song was also included as a bonus track on the USB version of the album, released in April 2014.

While specific recording dates are not known, it is assumed to have been recorded in Summer 2011 - early 2012 and was recorded at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen. It was first mentioned (as Gone) during a preview of the album on Drfunkenberry.com as a song inspired by "an old James Taylor and Carol King special".
