Overview & History

Moon Sound (also written as Moonsound) was a studio owned by Chris Moon where Prince recorded material at the beginning of his career, before he had a record-deal.

Moon Sound was situated at different locations, but when Prince first recorded there in the spring and summer of 1976 it was located in a 1,500-square-foot former hair salon at 4937 28th Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55417. After the summer it would move to a different building, a large, single-story structure on 2828 Dupont Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55408.

Studio

Not much is known about the equipment Chris Moon had in the studio at the time of Prince recording there. It is assumed it was an 8-track or perhaps 16 track studio.
